Slipper Punishment

Have you ever seen anyone spank their child or pet with their slipper? This is called slipper punishment, and it isn’t any better than spanking a child or pet with a belt! If you use slipper punishment on your child or pet, you seriously need to rethink your discipline methods before you are accused of child abuse!

Have you ever been hit with a slipper? Most slippers have rubber soles, and those soles cause quite a bit of pain when they connect with bare skin. It is painful, and it is wrong. Try hitting yourself with your slipper, just as you would hit your child…keep in mind that you tend to hit a little harder when you are angry. Did that feel good? No. It was violent, and even unnecessary. There are more effective, less violent ways to punish a child.

It is understood that children cannot often be reasoned with. They do, however, respond well to time outs or to having to stand in the corner for a specified period of time. Taking away belongings and privileges is also quite effective. Violence only teaches them to be violent – not to follow the rules! If you want a child to demonstrate better behavior, start by demonstrating better behavior yourself. We live in a world full of examples – not a ‘do as I say, not as I do’ environment.

Avoid slipper punishment at all costs. If you feel that much violence toward your child, you should remove your child from your presence until you can calm down and become rational again. If you can’t resist the urge to hit your child with your slipper, or with any other object, you should call a help center immediately for help and counseling.
