Slipper Punish

Has your mother ever taken her slipper off and spanked you with it? It’s the old slipper punish! Do you do this to your child or pet? If you do, you shouldn’t. There are better ways to punish a child or pet who has done something wrong than the slipper punish. Slippers should be associated with comfort and warmth – not violence and anger!

If you think that hitting a child or pet with a slipper won’t hurt them, think again. Most slippers have rubber soles, and when that rubber is slapped against the skin, it stings painfully! Try it on yourself if you don’t believe that. Keep in mind that if you are angry, you will hit harder than you intended to as well. Someday, when you pass on, you want your grown child to look at your old worn out slippers and have warm and fond memories – not bad memories of violence!

Instead of spanking your child, try reasoning. Not all children of all ages can be reasoned with – but then neither can many adults. Punish your child in a way that they understand that they are being punished and that they have done something wrong. A time out is appropriate, and the time out should last as many minutes as the child is old. For example, if the child is five, the time out should last five minutes. Putting the child in the corner – facing the wall – is also an appropriate punishment.

You should never slipper punish a child. You should never spank a child with any object. If you feel that you must spank your child, use your bare hand, and don’t hit their bare skin…but try to avoid all spankings if at all possible. There are better, more appropriate forms of punishment available.
